By choosing to birth outside of a hospital setting, a family recognizes that they are in a comfortable environment that allows the birth to innately happen more naturally, most of the time leading to a safer, easier birth. However, no midwife can promise a risk-free birth, and being away from a hospital could cause delays in medical care, should intervention be needed. She was apprentice trained under West Michigan Midwifery and completed the PEP process and passed her NARM exam in 2019. She went on to complete her Bridge Certificate and received her state license in 2019. She continued to work with the practice that trained her until 2022 when she branched off to form Bloom Midwifery. In 2014, she decided to “answer the call” and pursue a career in out-of-hospital midwifery. She enrolled in the midwifery program at Birthingway College of Midwifery in 2014 and began the process towards becoming a competent, skilled and community-centered midwife. After earning her Bachelor’s degree at Birthingway, she moved to Detroit, MI in 2018 to complete her clinical training and licensure process. To her, being a midwife is a form of activism and an active practice towards reproductive justice. She believes that midwifery is a labor of love, one of radical advocacy and compassion. Her core value as a midwife is to provide evidence-based and trauma-informed care to individuals regardless of where they fall on the reproductive spectrum, and to implement midwifery as a form of reparations to the community.
